King Christian X and his soldiarity with the Denmark Jews
On the 25th of Nissan (acknowledged this year on April 29, 2011) King Christian X attended the celebration of the 100th anniversary of the Synagogue to show his solidarity with the Jewish community.
During the Holocaust, King Christian was a rare example in his refusal to cooperate in the murder of Jews. Almost all of the Jews of Denmark survived the war, truly an amazing feat! Only 19 Jews from Denmark where deported to concentration camps.
In September 1943, the Nazis decided to deport all Danish Jews to the death camps -- but overnight a rescue organization was established and Danes from all walks of life helped to ferry some 6,000 Jews to safety in Sweden.
