Jews of Tzfat attacked
On the 15th of Tammuz 1838 (acknowledged this year on July 7, 2009) Arabs attacked the Jews of Tzfat, 1838.
"An entire community of 2000 souls were forced into hiding for 33 days, in caves, ruins, inhospitable mountaintops, and cellars. For 33 days the lives of the Jews of Tzfat had practically no value, and any of them who showed his or her face in public was at risk of been beaten to death, sometimes by neighbors or business associates. Tzfat is one of the four holy cities in Israel, and today remains a popular center of Jewish learning.
"For, behold, I have made thee a defenced city, and an iron pillar, and brasen walls ." Jeremiah 1:18
