Items from IL-LI, an Israeli non-profit founded by Moshe Dvash

A letter from the founder, Mr. Moshe Dvash:

Shalom,

I am a seventh generation Yerushalmi (Jerusalem resident.) The Summer of 1997 my brother Ilan (pronounced E-Lan) was murdered in tragic circumstances. Four and a half years later, during the intifada, my younger sister Livnat, went out with some friends on a Saturday night. A suicide bomber entered Cafe Moment with explosives on his body and blow-up himself. 11 young men and women lost their lives, including my sister, she was only 27 years old.

Neither my brother and nor my sister ever married. All these years, I thought I had to find a way to memorialize them because they did not have children to do so. A year ago, I found a way to memorialrize them.

Both were people who loved to volunteer and gave of themselves. I decided to establish a non-profit named IL-LI (acrynom for Ilan and Livnat) to help Israeli girls and boys from Ethiopia, focusing on the low income high-risk ones who did not yet fully integrated into Israeli society.

I am an artist and own a Judaica and jewelry studio. The Ethiopian boys and girls come to my studio twice a week for three-hour sessions. Together, during the art creation workshops, I teach them life skills. Twice a week we eat together, create together, and they find a sympathetic ear. During those hours, the boys don't hang-around in the streets, they have fun, and learn too. When they see they can create something beautiful, they feel they are worth something!

Their final products are not professional by any means, however, when you purchase their work (at the IL-LI section) you know that it will make them very proud and that proceeds will be sent to them, for their welfare.

Thank you so much for your support!
