Global "Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem" Day
The First Sunday of October, October 5th, has been designated as the global Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem and is based on the verse from Psalm 122:6 which states:
“Pray for the Peace of Jerusalem; may they who love you be serene.”
Having described the excellent qualities of Jerusalem, King David declares: All of you, “pray for the peace of Jerusalem.” But do not pray only for the sake of the city. Pray as well for peace among those who love her. For Jerusalem was destroyed due to unfounded hatred. Let peace reign in the midst of the people of Israel in Jerusalem, lest it be destroyed. If peace will prevail, there will be no hatred and no new destruction.
Within the interpretation that King David refers here to the exiles, he says: Pray to G-d “for the peace of Jerusalem.” Plead for the ingathering of the exiles, and then there will be peace in the city. The city will know no peace until then, for the Ishmaelites will wage war against her.
Thus he goes on to say about Jerusalem: “May they who love you” - the exiled Jewish people and all others who mourn for her destruction - “be serene.”
The Day of Prayer for the Peace of Jerusalem is taking place on the first Sunday of the month of October. Israeli and Jewish leaders are joining their Christians friends to celebrate this special date.
Thousands of Christian leaders are in support of this special prayer day which is being held in over 100 nations around the globe. Over 100 million Christians committed to this day representing more then 100,000 Churches.
